The Viking Splash was established in 1999 by an Irish-American couple that saw the possibility of the Viking Splash after they saw something similar in Boston.
The fleet consists of 6 DUKWS, each one named after a Viking god/goddess. Dukws were used during World War II to ferry troops and supplies like food, water and medical equipment to land.
Viking Splash Tours is a fun-filled guided tour of Dublin both on land and on water. While on land, you will tour through the sights of Viking & Medieval Dublin, Trinity College, Christ Church Cathedral and lots more historical sites. While on water you will enter the Grand Canal Docks.
The Viking Splash tour takes you to the top sightseeing places in Dublin city centre. The tour departs from Stephen’s Green North ( Directly opposite Starbucks), The first tour departs at 10am and run roughly every 30 minutes during the summer months and 1½ hour during the winter months, these can vary so you will need to check with the operator prior to departure. The duration of the tour is roughly 1¼ hour depending on traffic. Last tour 4:30pm in summer.
The experience appeals to children and parents alike but they also cater for all groups as well.
Children under the age of 3 years old are not permitted on the tours due to safety reasons. Only two prams are allowed on board per tour and it must be folded up.
The names of the six DUKWS are...
Balder – meaning Viking god of light, beauty love & happiness.
Tyr – meaning Viking god of single combat, victory and heroic glory.
Freya – meaning Viking goddess associated with love beauty, fertility, gold, war & death.
Odin – meaning the Chief of all the Viking gods and ruler of Asgard, the Viking afterlife.
Thor – meaning Viking god of thunder.
Loki – meaning Viking god associated with mischief.
