The Undertones are a punk rock band formed in Derry, Northern Ireland, in 1974. The original lineup consisted of Feargal Sharkey (vocals), John O'Neill (rhythm guitar, vocals), Damian O'Neill (lead guitar, vocals), Michael Bradley (bass, vocals), and Billy Doherty (drums). The band's sound was characterized by catchy melodies, energetic rhythms, and straightforward, often humorous lyrics. They drew inspiration from punk rock and pop music, creating a unique blend that appealed to a wide audience.

The Undertones gained widespread acclaim with their debut single "Teenage Kicks" in 1978, which was famously championed by influential British DJ John Peel. The song's raw energy and infectious chorus made it an instant classic and remains one of the most celebrated punk rock anthems of all time. Throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, The Undertones released several albums and singles, including "My Perfect Cousin," "Here Comes The Summer," and "Jimmy Jimmy." Their music captured the spirit of youthful rebellion and resonated with fans around the world.

Despite lineup changes and eventual disbandment in 1983, The Undertones left a legacy on the punk rock genre. Their influence can be heard in the music of subsequent generations of bands, and their songs continue to be celebrated and enjoyed by fans old and new.
