Snow Patrol is a Northern Irish-Scottish rock band known for their emotive alternative rock sound and powerful anthems. Snow Patrol was formed in 1994 in Dundee, Scotland, by Northern Irish students Gary Lightbody (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) and Mark McClelland (bass, keyboards). The initial lineup also included Michael Morrison (drums), who was later replaced by Jonny Quinn. Nathan Connolly (lead guitar, backing vocals) and Paul Wilson (bass, backing vocals) joined later.

Snow Patrol's music is characterized by its blend of alternative rock, indie rock, and post-Britpop influences. Their sound often features soaring melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and rich instrumentation. The band cites influences from bands like U2, Pixies, and Sebadoh, as well as a range of other alternative rock and indie artists.

"Songs for Polarbears" (1998): Their debut album, which received positive critical reviews but limited commercial success. "When It's All Over We Still Have to Clear Up" (2001): Continued to build their underground following. “Final Straw" (2003): The album marked their commercial breakthrough, featuring hits like "Run," "Chocolate," and "Spitting Games." It achieved multi-platinum status and established the band on the global stage. "Eyes Open" (2006): Included the international hit single "Chasing Cars," which became one of their most iconic songs. The album also featured "Hands Open" and "Open Your Eyes," further cementing their popularity.

Snow Patrol has received numerous awards and nominations, including Ivor Novello Awards and Meteor Ireland Music Awards. They have achieved several Top 10 albums and singles in the UK and have sold over 10 million albums worldwide. Snow Patrol's emotive and anthemic rock sound, combined with their heartfelt lyrics, has earned them a lasting place in the alternative rock scene. Their songs, particularly "Chasing Cars," remain enduringly popular, and their influence can be seen in the work of many contemporary rock and indie artists.
